Description

An exceptionally rare and beautifully restored 1968 Plymouth Road Runner, finished in special-order paint code 999 Petty Blue—one of only five known examples, and the only one documented with a blue interior. This is a true standout among Mopar collectors.

Originally an Arizona car, it was brought to Michigan in the late 1980s, where it was disassembled and stored indoors for decades. Acquired by the current owner in 2018, the car underwent a comprehensive, no-shortcuts restoration, beginning with a bare shell that was media blasted and refinished using show-quality PPG single-stage Petty Blue paint. Approximately 99% of the body panels are original and rust-free.

The interior has been fully restored using Legendary Auto Interiors components, finished in the correct two-tone blue, and presents in outstanding condition. New bumpers were installed, and the grille was professionally restored. The car rides on Scott Drake aluminum Magnum 500 wheels (15×7 front, 15×8 rear) wrapped in BFGoodrich tires for a period-correct stance.

Power comes from a 1969-spec 440 HP V8, built with TRW 11:1 forged pistons (.030 over), a Mopar Performance .509 camshaft, double roller timing chain, high-volume oil pump with deep sump, and HP exhaust manifolds. The cylinder heads received a valve job with swirl-polished valves, and the engine is topped with an Edelbrock intake manifold and 750 CFM carburetor. A water/methanol injection system has been added for enhanced performance.

The drivetrain includes a numbers-matching manual transmission, paired with a McLeod clutch and a rebuilt factory Hurst shifter, sending power to a 3.91 Sure Grip rear axle with 489 case. Exhaust duties are handled by a TTI 2.5-inch system, and the car benefits from all-new M&H wiring from front to rear.

For drivability, power steering and front disc brakes have been added. Nearly every component is either new or fully rebuilt, and the restoration was completed approximately three years ago, with 1,525 miles driven to ensure sorting and reliability. Extensive receipts accompany the build.

The car retains its original fender tag (build sheet not present), further supporting its authenticity and rare factory specification.
