Description

An extraordinary and historically significant 1965 Plymouth Belvedere I A990 Super Stock, one of only 101 examples produced and one of just twelve factory-built with a 4-speed manual transmission. This car represents the pinnacle of Chrysler’s factory drag racing program and is widely regarded as one of the most important muscle cars ever built.

Built under the A990 package, this Belvedere was engineered exclusively for drag racing. The steel body was acid-dipped to reduce weight, lightweight glass was supplied by Corning, and aluminum components were used for the door hinges and window regulators. The interior was intentionally spartan, with the radio, heater, rear seat, and armrests deleted to save weight.

A rotisserie refurbishment was completed more than two decades ago, during which the car was repainted, reupholstered, and fitted with a professionally built replacement 426 Hemi engine featuring:

• Forged crankshaft

• JE pistons

• Manley connecting rods

• Stainless-steel valves

• T&D roller rockers

• ARP fasteners

Additional performance and period-correct components include a magnesium intake manifold, dual Holley carburetors, S&S exhaust headers, limited-slip differential, Hurst shifter, roll bar, and 15-inch American Racing wheels.
